Nope. Not dead.

Now that I've set any crazy tabloid rumors straight...

Welcome to any new followers (I don't know how you found me, but I'm psyched you're here), and a sincere apology for the recent lack of content. This post will include little-to-no miniature-related talk. Just excuses/explanations. Sorry again.

I'm still in my first year with this thing. Experimenting, feeling it out. And what I'm finding, is that I don't like to be on my computer or up in my third-floor non-air-conditioned craft room where it is perpetually over 100 degrees in the Summer. I start sweating like an animal just thinking about it. It's nothing personal, I love you guys. But the only time I like sweating is when I work out.

Also, I have a ton on my plate. (I'm so busy, blah, blah, blah...)

1: Our house is still for sale. We knew it could take a long time to sell. Working on little things here and there, to make it more appealing.

2: I'd like to say that I'm anywhere near the TinyFixation Etsy Grand Opening I've been dreaming about, sadly nope. I'm not in the mood to design/photograph mini life when it's a beautiful time to live real life. I'm hoping to get that going this Fall. Trust me, I'll be on here doing plenty of that shameless self-promotion. I've at least secured the shop name, but there's nothing for sale. Yet.

3: New England weather is unpredictable at best. I take every chance I can to kayak, because (it's one of my favorite things, and) you never know when you'll get to go again. And this has been hands-down one of the nicest summers I can remember. I've been spending lots of time on the water.
And this guy seems to like it, too. It's a new hobby for him this year.

4: The Winnebago. Y'all know we bought a vintage Winnie and we're updating/remodeling as a "couple's bonding project". Just what I needed. Here's a little bathroom progress for show. Again, it's hotter than H-E-Double hockey sticks in that tin can. The AC is another thing we're working on. Baby steps, dude.

Tore out all of the heinous, and put down new vinyl tile.
Made our own vessel sink from a bowl I got for $14.99 at Target.
Had a custom vanity built. Painted the walls teal to keep with the '79-'80 model year.
5: I'm making me a priority for once. Since January I have completely overhauled my lifestyle. Not because of some ridiculous resolution (or as I call them: empty promises to oneself), I don't make those.
I've lost 48 lbs. I eat really healthy food, and I exercise all the time. Including the kayaking. I haven't felt or looked this good since I did gymnastics in middle school. I didn't know that all my giant muscles were still there, just hidden under blubber. I look like the Hulk when I flex. And I can run 7 miles without stopping now.

6: As mentioned above, I've had a life-changing weight loss body transformation. I needed to replace my entire wardrobe. Even undies. That wasn't in the budget. So I've taken the time consuming (yet incredibly entertaining) route of thrifting (except the undies, I make sure to get those first-hand). I spend a fair amount of my time raiding the local Goodwill stores for their finest garb, and have made out very well. So well that I might add an occasional post about some of my finds and the outfits I make on an additional blog.

7: An additional blog. HA! Those are fighting words. (especially seeing how well I've been keeping this one)

8: The Olympics are badass. If I've been inside, that's what I was watching.

Ridiculous.

9 & Lastly: People throw so many friggin' parties in the Summer! I'm in my 20's and I don't have kids. Enough said.

I'll try to post something useful soon (waiting for a rainy day), until then I'm doing Summer. You should, too!

  1. NO WAY...our project for next week is making a vessel sink out of a bowl I got from Target. Ours is ceramic though. Any advice to pass on?

And wow!! 48 pounds?! You rock. I was very excited to have lost 1 this morning after 3 years of trying. 29 more to go.

Great to hear from you again, glad you're having an awesome summer. :)

    1. Thanks! :)

The toughest part for your vessel sink is going to be cutting the drain hole in the ceramic, but I bet you already know that. Probably going to need a diamond coated hole-bit (size depends on the drain setup you've chosen). Your best bet for advice (according to my husband) would be to consult any tile people you know, and if none, ask at your hardware store which bit might be best. That hole is the biggest obstacle. After that it's just regular plumbing stuff, teflon tape/silicone/solvent bonding, P-trap, etc. We didn't have to worry too much about day to day wear/tear/functionality because it's in a motorhome we use only occasionally.

Are you near NH? You seem local, Masshole maybe? ;)

Any questions you may have, send them. Maybe I can help (after consulting the all-knowing man). Don't hesitate to e-mail me, I think that you can do that through Blogger.

And right backatcha with the Summer sentiments. Keep up the good work. The first pound is the hardest! If ever there was a cheerleader... you've found her.

    1. Thanks!

The bathroom was the biggest overhaul, because I'm a germaphobe, and it was shag-carpeted in there for over 30 years. Gross. Still a work in progress, though. The rest is just cosmetic, paint and easy/fun stuff (as soon as it's not 90 degrees everyday)!

  3. wow I love that bowl and boy is it hot in my little work space too I hate going up there during the summer but watch me work during the winter! the winnie looks awesome but you'll need air or you'll roast yourself. we're looking into central air but so far no luck (when you are in your 50's you need AC)

    enjoy summer
    Love Marisa

    1. Thank you! Looking forward to Autumn/Winter when it cools off and I can get back to mini-business.
You need AC even in your 20's. I only work on the Winnebago when it's breezy and I open all of the windows. Glad you like the new bathroom reno, we'll be testing it out this weekend! Cheers to what's left of Summer :)

    1. Thanks! I appreciate all of the encouragement I've recieved here :)
I had been shopping craigslist for vessel sinks with little prospects, so I figured, If I can make everything else, why not a stinkin' sink?! For cheap.

And the dog is also a work in progress. Like all of my animals (there's another dog and cat), he's a rescue, and came with issues. Getting him in the boat and on the water was a year of gentle training, and it was like seeing a baby take its first steps when he jumped in the boat. I almost teared up. He's so sweet, he just needed the right family. (Thank goodness someone in Arkansas saw the potential and saved him from the needle even though he needed expensive surgery.)

Happy summer! More mini-content soon (God-willing)!

  5. OMG OMG OMG YAY YOU'RE ALIVE!!!! Dude I'm so happy for you. Get off your frickin' computer and go outside and stay there. 48 lbs! I am inspired and impressed. That is the best excuse for a blog hiatus. I don't want to see another post from you until its raining.

That winnie transformation is amazing. And you're still married?!? Awesome. I can't wait to see more of the winnie makeover (but only when you've tackled your summer fun and the partying subsides - what you don't have kids, the partying never stops!)

Speaking of my kids are yelling that I haven't fed them, gotta go throw some food on the table. Miss you, but glad you are living the life (that I secretly want to steal)!!! :P

    1. That was supposed to be "wait you don't have kids" not what. The brain is the first thing that goes when you start reproducing. :)

    2. Ha! While you were commenting here, I was emailing you. Seriously, check your inbox. Weird, and awesome. I wrote you a short novel, so I'll spare you from redundancy here :)

Promise not to post until inclement weather! I have a rainy-day list of crap to do in the craft palace, so I'll be back full-force soon. If only blogging burned calories like running, I could have it all :) Until then, I run (and rehydrate with pinot grigio). Probably fine.

  6. I couldn't agree more! I live in OLD England and our weather is VERY unpredictable, so you have to take it when you can. Enjoy the sunshine while it's here, winter is very loooooong. Have missed you tho.
